CHMHA Services
Community House helps people with severe and persistent mental illness increase their social, vocational, and life skills.
“It’s a place that I can come to and be with people. A place to go that helps give me a sense of purpose, activities to get involved.”
Bruce H., Community House Member
As an alternative to traditional clinical treatment, Community House provides a supportive family atmosphere for its members in which they can feel a sense of belonging and grow at their own pace. Community House members are encouraged to help design their own treatment. Staff incorporate a broad base of therapeutic approaches while maintaining a relationship that is open, informal, and caring. We provide a peer support day program, medication prescription and management, crisis intervention, and assistance and direction to assist members with basic living needs.
Our services are accessible to adults regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, mental or physical handicap, or ability to pay.
Our Services
Peer Support Day Program
Our peer support day treatment program is open Monday through Friday and includes breakfast and lunch, weekly food bank, psycho-educational groups, activities, outings, and a pre-vocational program. Members form positive relationships in a supportive, non-judgmental environment. Staff work with members on addressing basic life needs such as nutrition, food security, and hygiene. We also help develop the psycho-socio and recovery skills necessary for a productive and meaningful life in the community. Some of the events we have are a yearly camping trip, annual picnic, outings to Mt. Rainer and the tulip festival, and holiday parties.
LINC Legal Intervention and Network of Care
LINC provides intensive outreach case management and resource acquisition for individuals with behavioral health conditions who have been involved in the criminal legal system.
The program is short term, 6-12 months, and designed to connect individuals to long term behavioral health treatment. LINC is a prosecutorial diversion program – referrals come from prosecuting attorneys who are willing to dismiss a charge or refrain from filing one if the individual agrees to participate in LINC. Individuals do not need to have Medicaid to be eligible.
LINC overlaps with all other King County enrollments (such as outpatient behavioral health, PACT, or LEAD), allowing for a smooth transition from LINC to long term supports.
Program highlights: low caseloads, peer support, respite beds, transitional housing through Trueblood Phase III, and day treatment at Community House.
Case Management and Therapy
Our case managers help members reach their recovery goals by providing individualized support and advocacy (to effectively manage their mental health). Ancillary therapy supports members to develop coping skills and gain insight into recovery needs.
Our staff of case managers provide two major roles to our client. The first role is advocacy, assisting members with housing, legal, financial, vocational, (mental health stabilization and maintenance) and medical concerns (medical coordination instead of concerns) in a therapeutic framework that offers skill development in independent living. The second is follow-up, for when clients are in transition, crisis, or when prolonged and/or unexplained absences from treatment are noted.
Medication Management and Monitoring
Our on-site psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner supports members through medication prescription, quarterly follow-ups, and urgent appointments as needed.
Members can pick up their medications at our clinic, where staff help monitor and encourage medication compliance and are available to address concerns as they arise.
Housing
Community House provides housing to several hundred individuals in the King county area. Housing opportunities include cluster housing, independent apartments, supervised living, and licensed group boarding homes.
